We know that ramparts were built to protect Castles in Medieval times, and they were not meant to be breached. Do we not also erect ramparts around our human hearts to protect us? What I see in this work are ramparts that had been utterly destroyed. I realized that I had painted a metaphor of a human heart whose ramparts had been breached and broken by a betrayed love. What could be more devastating than that to anyone? And yet, few of us have not suffered from it.
